Clerical Sex Abuse

It is with great sadness that I post concerning the serious failures and evils of those in a position of authority in our beloved Church. A great deal of purification is needed to get rid of (in Cardinal Ratzinger's term) 'the filth' that masquerade as faithful servants of our Lord Jesus. As He said, 'it were better for him, that a millstone were hanged around his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should scandalize one of these little ones' (Luke 17:2). These evils must be dealt with, however the current attack on the Holy Father is seriously unjustified. Newspapers who claim to expose the truth for the public have broken all rules of integrity, honesty and journalism, by sensationalising and blantantly inventing stories to mock and slander Holy Mother Church. Their assaults and lies have been dealt with by Catholic commentators, who have written at great length what the truth is concerning this matter, yet even so-called 'reputable' organisations such as the BBC and Sky, have fallen for the lies of the New York Times.

For many people within the Church and outwith, this current crisis seems to be the final nail in the coffin of her, yet as Christ said 'the gates of hell shall not prevail' (Matt. 16:18) against her whom He sanctified in His Blood. I wish that all such evil doers were rooted out of the Church, so that further damage may not be inflicted upon her reputation in this world, however the 'uprooting' of such people can not be done until the Second Coming. Christ (Matt. 13:25) said that 'enemy came and oversowed cockle among the wheat' and this all happened 'while men were asleep'. Negligence in guarding the sheep that Christ has handed over to His bishops and priests have caused damage as these men have proven themselves to be simply 'hired hands', and not true shephards in Christ. I truly believe that under the supremacy of the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, this situation can and will be rectified. Our witness to the truth that is Jesus Christ has been gravely damaged by these sins, and we now need to make a greater effort to win souls to God and His Church. Our trust in the Church is because our Lord died for her and He promised to remain with us until the end of time (Matt. 28-20) and not because of the credibility of men.

This may be a set-back, yet the Church of Christ has suffered much in her two thousand years and this unsavoury scandal will not be the last, and it certainly is not the worst. The hypocracy of the media seems to know no bounds. They rise up in anger and astonishment that a priest could abuse a child, but in their own columns they claim the right to murder the unborn (all in the name of woman's liberty of course) and if these children live to see the light, they pervert them in the home. The sexualisation of our children is reprehensible and nothing is done about it, in fact this facet of modern life has become worse.
